While parents can read and write in their native language, their kids - the second generation - can barely do so.<p>Kids often speak their mother tongue fluently because it is the language they use at home. But reading and writing is rarely a "felt need" for them. And kids are unlikely to feel that need unless parents nudge them - preferably at an early age.<p>Many parents genuinely want their kids to be able to read and write in their mother tongue. This usually means a textbook or a weekend language class. Both can feel like a chore.<p>Most language apps teach you to 'speak' a language. COOLPHABETS teaches you to 'read' and 'write'.
